I don't use my Oyster card all the time but at some point earlier in the year I was given a new debit card and forgot to update the details. My Osyter account tried to auto-top-up but filed and it caused the card to be blocked. I don't believe I went into negative credit but I did go below the point at which it auto-tops up.
